Sharpitor (Burrator)

Tor Information
Name: Sharpitor (Burrator) Grid Reference: SX559703
Height: 402 m / 1319 ft
Notes: One of the two giants of Walkhampton Common. Easily recognisable and a very popular tor for people to climb because of it's close proximity to the road. Lends it's name to ROC Sharpitor observation bunker which was situated close by on Peek Hill until it was decomissioned in 1991. Photos can be seen in the 'Walk Photos' section below.

Leg Instruction
1Leave your car at either the car park just below Sharpitor (SX 556706) or a little further down the hill (SX 561709)
2Follow the well worn path from SX561709 along until you hit the old Princetown railway line.
3Follow the line to the north for around half a mile and you will find Ingra Tor. Please be careful if you climb the tor as there is a small (but deep) quarry to the east which has no barriers to prevent you falling.
4Back on the railway line, continue for another half a mile until you find the old stone bridge that crosses the line. To the east of this you will find East Tor.
5The path from East Tor to Leeden Tor is obvious and well trodden. Follow this until you reach the plateau at the summit of Leeden Tor then head in a southerly direction back toward to road and car parks.
6You can cut this walk short at this point or if you are feeling more energetic, cross the road and head for Leather Tor which sits to the left of Sharpitor as you are looking at them.
7Scramble to the top of Leather Tor to enjoy spectacular views of Burrator and the rest of Walkhampton Common. Be careful up there.... the ridge gives way to shear drops on both sides.
8From Leather Tor head WSW to Lowery Tor then up the hill to the summit of Peek Hill. Views from up here are some of the best on the moor!
9Finally cross the ridge to Sharpitor and back to your car.
